Tilicho Lake is a demanding trek that takes you on out of this world adventure to one of the world’s highest lakes in awe-inspiring mountain location. Tilicho Lake Trekking carries you on a journey through premises of highest altitude lake in the world inciting you from beginning to end of your trek. The highlights of the Tilicho trip is the world highest lake Tilicho that lees at the elevation of 4900 M, the Thorung La pass at 5,416m (17,769ft), adjoining glacier below Tilicho Peak, the ancient temple of Muktinath, a pilgrimage destination, and age-old villages with traditional lifestyles.

Our 19 day adventure itinerary for the Tilicho Lake trek has us starting from Besisahar as Annapurna Circuit Trekking, which goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. Our Tilicho Lake Trek starts with a day drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar. This magnificent Tilicho lake trekking leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas. During initial days of the trek, the trails show up magnificent views of Manaslu and HimChuli along cultural insights in a village inhabited by various ethnic groups. We follow the Marshyangdi River Valley on the classic Annapurna Circuit Trail till Manang Village then we trek another few days to reach the Tilicho Base Camp- the destination of our journey. Trails are quite similar like of Annapurna Circuit Trekking with few customizations. Following the eastern portion of the world-classic Annapurna Circuit through diverse and a blend of unique ethnicities along the way this trek takes you to Tilicho Lake. The Khanshar Village, also known as the last village of Nepal, falls along the way as we trek up towards the Tilicho Lake. Then we travel to Yak Kharka then up to pass of Thorung La at elevation of 5416 meters. From the Thorung - La pass, we follow our trails towards pilgrimage Muktinath and finally Jomsom to fly back into Pokhara, the charming lakeside town with views of the Himalaya.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport

After your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, a representative of Adventure Master Treks & Expedition shall be there waiting for you. You shall be welcomed and then escorted to a private vehicle for your drive to your respective hotel and into rooms where you can have a rest & lighten up your tired body. Later in the evening you have the option to go for a leisurely walk around the Thamel area and after that prepare yourself for tomorrow’s sightseeing tour. Stay overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Drive to Besisahar

Wake up cause we are about to start our initial phase of our trek today. Have your breakfast and our guides shall escort you to a private vehicle which is bound to take you on a drive away from Kathmandu (1,300m) to our starting point, Besisahar. Driving through the highway along the hills beside you and clear sky ahead, we shall pass through the torrential Marshyangdi River during our drive today. With the closing views of the majestic Himalayan Mountains ahead, we shall approach the western region of Nepal. Lastly after driving for almost 7-8 hours, you shall arrive at the phenomenal spot of Besisahar. We plan to start our breathtaking adventure with an overnight stay at the mid west town of Besisahar which is also the Headquarter of Lamjung district. Stay overnight at Besisahar.

Day 03: Drive to Syange and trek to Chamje

Getting away from Besisahar, we shall now take another scenic drive to Syange village. After waking up and having our breakfast, we shall jump inside a jeep by which we are to drive from Besisahar and continue driving on dirt road passing through several villages of Khudi, Bhulbhule and Ngadi. Following the Marshyangdi River upstream, our drive shall take us past the rice terraced fields and local villages. After that we shall arrive at Syange village which is a small but a friendly local village for tourists and explorers of any kind. Now onward we shall tie our laces and start trekking for the first time in the beautiful Annapurna region of Nepal. Trekking ahead we shall see trails festooned with naturally made rocks and tall trees. Later on we shall arrive at the village of Jagat before reaching Chamje village ultimately after walking steadily in the trails of western Nepal. It should not be that hard on your body today, as the trail generally moderate for walking purposes till Chamje. Stay overnight at Chamje.

Day 04: Trek to Bagarchhap

Let’s make our way further inside the Annapurna region. We wake up; have our breakfast and fill up our tummies before trekking ahead to our next overnight destination of Bagarchhap. Initially we shall continue with our walk along the rhododendron forests filled with amazing wildlife and reach a place Tal. From here we now move further ahead and make our way to Dharapani which is a typical village located in the mid hills of Annapurna region. Moving past this village we shall ultimately arrive at Bagarchhap after walking for about 2 hours from Dharapani. Stay overnight at Bagarchhap.

Day 05: Trek to Chame

Continuing on with our trek, we now have to trek away to a village called Chame before dawn. So we wake up, have our bellies filled with some breakfast and then let our legs take us further ahead. Moving past these places, we shall now reach a slightly bigger village of Danak. Moving on from here we continue trekking along the trails with green sceneries all the way to Timang village. And next one was slightly bigger – Danaque. We had our small launch and continued our way to Temang and then to Koto. Passing through these villages, we shall make our final attempt and reach the final destination of Chame. Stay overnight at Chame.

Day 06: Trek to Pisang

Waking up with a refreshed feeling, we now have our breakfast in the magnificent village of Chame. But we still have to continue walking further to reach our main goal. So after having our breakfast we shall continue heading onwards to trails with close up views of mountains through alpine forests of rhododendron and pine trees. Our trail today shall follow the Marshyangdi River upstream with short ups and down hills to Bhratang village. From Bhratang village our trails pass through alpine forests to Dhukure Pokhari which is a diminutive place with a small amount of teahouses and lodge. Later on we shall get a panoramic glance at the Pisang and Chulu peaks before descending down to Pisang village for overnight stop. Stay overnight at Pisang.

Day 07: Trek to Manang

We shall wake up and have our breakfast with the views of soaring mountains ahead. After finishing our breakfast, our guide shall start taking you ahead to reach our next destination from here onward. Trekkers can easily witness the increase in the altitude as the walking trails moves further on. Our way today leads us past through lush forest with little uphill’s and provide you with a grandiose views of Himalayan mountain peaks like the Mt. Annapurna II and III, Mt. Gangapurna along with Chulu’s and Pisang peak. From this instant we start walking downhill to ultimately get in touch with the flat valley at Hongde village. As you reach here you can see the trails filled up with barren, arid landscapes in the midst of cold, dry arctic climate. With some more walking we shall finally reach at Manang village which will be our final destination for this day. Manang is a huge village positioned on desolate valley by the bank of Marshyangdi River underneath Annapurna and Gangapurna mountain range. Stay overnight at Manang.

Day 08: Acclimatization day at Manang village

Every trekker who has been to high elevations knows that acclimatization is a very essential part of their trek. Without proper acclimatization you might never be able to carry on with your trek further ahead. Therefore, we have scheduled a day for acclimatization here in Manang village so our entire day will be spent here. But it necessarily doesn’t mean that you should sit inside your room all day doing nothing. But rather on the contrary you can go outside and explore around the village which might help you rekindle the joy of discovery as you learn and witness something that cannot be imitated anywhere else. Manang is a perfect place where trekkers like you can give your bodies an ample amount of time to adjust to the surroundings available in these elevations before making an attempt to cross the Thorong-La Pass further ahead. Stay overnight at Manang. 

Day 09: Trek to Khangsar Village

After exploring around the vicinity of Manang village yesterday, we shall wake up early and have our breakfast. Continuing further ahead with our trek, we shall walk away from splendid Manang village. As we get away from Manang, we shall leave the interesting Buddhist culture and traditions which fills this entire village with great diversity. Today our trail ahead shall divert away from the foremost Annapurna Circuit Trail, so we continue walking ahead to reach the Khangsar on route Tilicho Lake. Walking our designated trails, we shall head towards south-west with unbelievable views of neighboring snowy mountain peaks and reach at a small settlement called Sri-Kharka which has a small number of lodges. Later on we shall reach our final destination of Khangsar village after walking for about an hour walk from Sri-Kharka. Stay overnight at Khangsar.

Day 10: Trekking to Tilicho Base Camp

Today we shall try to make an effort to reach the Tilicho Base Camp which further goes towards the Tilicho Lake. After having our breakfast today, we shall pass a Gompa en route ahead; we shall walk to a freshly constructed path up towards a towering ridge. From this point onward we shall reach an intersection and afterward continue walking along the new path. Later we shall reach a high crest, and from there we begin to slide down on switch backs impressed out through the slopes to reach the side valley. On the other side from here trekkers shall arrive at the Tilicho Base Camp which is situated at an elevated altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. Stay overnight at Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 11: Trek to Tilicho Lake and back down to Tilicho Base Camp

With an objective to reach the Tilicho Lake today we shall wake up with great enthusiasm and energy for the trek ahead. After having a great time reaching the Tilicho Base Camp yesterday, we shall now continue heading towards Tilicho Lake today. Our walk today shall take us further away from the main Manang valley to reach the remote corners of Manang valley. Our trek shall take us to the incredible Tilicho Lake with probability of seeing a quantity of wild-life like antelopes, musk deer or a mysterious snow leopard along the way. Later return back to Tilicho Base Camp after exploring the Tilicho Lake. Stay overnight at Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 12: Trek to Yak Kharka

After successfully trekking up to the highest fresh water lake in the world, we shall now start descending down to Yak Kharka today. After waking and having our breakfast we shall walk along an easy trail down to Sri Kharka and continue walking along the Marshyangdi River today. Ultimately we shall reach our final destination of Yak Kharka which is situated at an altitude of about 4,020 meters above sea level. We shall check into a lodge available here. Stay overnight at Yak Kharka.

Day 13: Trek to Thorong Phedi

We have reached another segment of our incredible trek today as we now have to trek towards Thorong Phedi. After waking up and having our breakfast, we shall slowly rise out from Yak Kharka and go past through Thorong Khola. We shall go towards the direction of Thorong Phedi, from where each day tourists set off to cross over Thorong La Pass which is going to be the highest point of our trek. Initially we shall cross the grazing fields of yaks and horses and cross a wooden bridge later on during the trek. Afterward we shall walk up a hill and arrive at our final destination of Thorong Phedi. And for your kind information, Thorong Phedi will be the last village en route before Thorong La Pass. Stay overnight at Thorong Phedi.

Day 14: Trek to Muktinath via Thorong La Pass

Today we need to wake up early in the morning as we have planned to cross the Thorong La Pass which receives fast flowing winds during the afternoon. Waking up early in the morning, we shall commence with the crossing of the formidable Thorong La Pass which sits comfortably at the high altitude of 5,416 meters above sea level. In the beginning of our trail today, we shall see the instant rise in the terrain ahead as soon as you leave Thorong Phedi. However you do not have to worry too much as the trail is very easy to follow and as we continue ascending up to the Thorong La pass we shall reach the summit of the pass after 5-6 hours of walking upward. Trekkers can witness the place being fully ornamented with Buddhists prayer flags and stone cairn built by trekkers. The view from this place is truly grandiose as you can see Thorong peak, Annapurnas and Gangapurnaa along with the Kali Gandaki valley etc. From this point onward the trail starts to move down precipitously towards Muktinath. Now the trail drops into a deep gorge, climbs out and passes through several meadows before and ultimately reaching the holy site of Muktinath. Stay overnight at Muktinath.

Day 15: Trek to Jomsom

Today we shall continue descending down to Jomsom from Muktinath. We wake up early and worship around the Muktinath temple before leaving the holy temple. Initially we shall begin to climb up the trail through settlements of Ranipauwa, Gharkot and other small villages. Later we shall reach Jomsom after walking for about 6-7hours with the stunning views of the landscape, diverse cultural variation and kind hospitality of local community. Upon reaching Jomsom we shall check into a local lodge and explore around the area. Stay overnight at Jomsom.

Day 16: Morning flight to Pokhara

Now we say goodbye to the Annapurna region of western Nepal as we end our thrilling trek to Tilicho Lake. After having our breakfast, we shall take a flight back to Pokhara from Jomsom in the morning. Upon reaching Pokhara we shall be transferred to your respective hotel where you can loosen up and take some needed showers. Later on you may spend you free time by visiting the lakeside in the evening as we plan to leave Pokhara tomorrow for Kathmandu. Stay overnight at Pokhara.

Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu

From the scenic lake city of Pokhara, we now drive back to the medieval city of Kathmandu today. En route today we shall drive back the same route which we used to come to Pokhara initially. We shall drive past the places of Damauli, Dumre,Muglin and Kurintar before reaching the Kathmandu valley after driving for about 7 hours. Nonetheless you do have the alternative option to fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu which usually takes only about 25 minutes. Stay overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 18: Final departure

This day marks the end of our incredible trek to Tilicho Lake so a representative of Adventure Master Treks & Expedition shall escort you to the Tribhuwan International Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
