“Life’s not meant to be lived in a one place, so travel as much as you desire.”
The Ganja - La Pass trek is arguably one of the most challenging passes in the Himalayas of Nepal; this wedge in the Himalaya is situated at a height of 5160m. The forest in this region have temperate and sub- alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, Thar, and Pika. The scenery here is spectacular and the trek is more adventurous. This region has so far remained one of the most attractive trekking corners in Nepal’s vast expanse of the Himalayas. Tea house facilities are not available in the Ganja La region; hence, trekking in the area is always fully supported and self-sufficient to meet all requirements and contingencies whatsoever.
Our Ganja La pass trek starts from Syabru Bensi and ends at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. From Syabru Bensi, we follow the Langtang River to the east until we get to Kyanjin Gompa (3,049 m). On the way, we also enjoy superb views of Langtang Lirung, Tibetan peaks and other mountains seen in the horizons. We get to rest at Kyanjin Gompa for about a day for acclimatization on this tough trip. Trek up to Kyanjin gompa and excursion to Tshergo Ri would acclimatize you well for further trek to Ganja La pass. The next day, we head up to Ganja La Pass (5160m), from this pass; we can get glorious views of villages and the pristine Himalayas as well. The Ganja la route of Langtang region brings you to the Langtang Valley surrounded by Himalayan Peaks. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising up behind and to the north across the valley is Langtang Lirung 7240m and Ganesh Himal is the highest in the region. The highest point of this trek is Ganja La Pass (5160m). In this trek trekkers can enjoy Buddhist culture and tradition. Stunning Himalayan sightseeing as well as gorgeous Buddhist monastery can be seen on the way. We take opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. Once we make a trip in the area, we descend from the pass on a steep slope for over 1 km; only camping is possible in the area, after crossing the Ganja la Pass, the trail takes us to Melamchi village and Tarke Ghyang, where people follow the Buddhist religion so we find many old Buddhist monasteries in the villages and our trek trail continues to descend to Melamchi Pul bazaar where we meet our vehicle and return to Kathmandu.
Offering a variety of spectacular scenery to austere landscapes the Ganja La Pass Trek is truly an adventure of a lifetime. Normally every trekker prefers autumn (mid Sept to mid Dec) and spring (March to May) as the best seasons for trekking in this region.
